Nordic X-Lam

X-Lam Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT)

Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is a light, natural and low-carbon building material. By layering boards at right angles and bonding them together, X-Lam panels deliver strength, stiffness and dimensional stability for modern mass timber projects.

X-Lam can be used for walls, roofs and floors. Thanks to its cross-ply construction it acts as a shear wall, can span long distances and support cantilevers, all in a relatively slim panel thickness.

Why CLT changes what is possible

X-Lam panels work as large-format, prefabricated elements. Openings for doors, windows, stairs and services are CNC-cut in the factory, and panels arrive ready to install. The result is a clean, predictable structure with fewer trades on site and minimal waste.

The inherent stability of cross-laminated layups means X-Lam can serve as both structure and shear diaphragm in multi-storey residential, commercial and institutional buildings.

X-LAM Advantages

  • CLT buildings can be assembled with simple tools and standard lifting equipment.
  • Assembly is fast, with small crews and no waiting for curing or stripping formwork.
  • CLT panels are around 80 % lighter than concrete, allowing smaller, simpler foundations.
  • Winter conditions have minimal impact on schedule – no hoarding or heating for curing is required.
  • Insulation, cladding and interior finishes attach quickly thanks to a continuous timber nail base.
  • CLT is a carbon-negative material, significantly reducing a building’s embodied carbon footprint.

Where X-Lam Excels

X-Lam CLT panels are ideal for mid-rise residential buildings, schools, community facilities and commercial spaces where speed, reduced site disruption and low embodied carbon are priorities. Exposed timber surfaces also contribute to warm, welcoming interiors.
